The Commonwealth Government's Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) initiative will assess research quality within Australia’s higher education institutions using a combination of indicators and expert review by committees comprising experienced, internationally-recognised experts. The initiative is being developed by the Australian Research Council (ARC), who recently released a draft list of ranked journals as one of several proposed indicators of research quality.

ASPERA has made a submission in response to the list, in relation to Field of Research 1902 (Film, Television & Digital Media), within Cluster 2 (Humanities & Creative Arts). This submission included supporting an alternative list of ranked journals that has been prepared by the AFI Research Collection, with input from ASPERA members.
